Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the incident made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
