A man who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said Ruben continued to conduct the "treat game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
