Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had caused observers to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
